Wingspan: 51 – 52 inches
Description: The Cormorant is mostly black. It has a greenish sheen on under parts and neck. It has a hooked yellow orange bill and face area. A slender looking bird.
Habits: The cormorant’s wings are not as waterproof as other waterfowl. It likes to perch on dry area, such as branches and rocks to dry its’ wings.
Diet: A great diver. It is able to dive up to 25 feet. It eats fish and other aquatic creatures.
Mating: Monogamous
Nest: Nests in colonies. Usually lays 2 blue-white eggs that hatch in 28 – 30 days.
Migration: Migratory
Whitin Pond: Seen on the pond all year around although it is sporadic.
