Description: The male has a bright yellow breast, upper back wings and head, but has a black cap. Black wings with white on the edge. Black tail, yellow bill and black eye.
The female has more olive yellow upper parts and head. No cap. Yellow bill and breast. Grayish wings with white on tail.
Habits:
Diet: Seeds and insects
Mating: Monogamous. Territorial
Nest: Eggs hatch in about 12 days. Pale blue eggs.
Migration: Migratory
Whitin Pond: Seen in the spring on the pond.
