Description: The male has a dark gray head and upper parts. It has a gray breast and tail with a white bill. White belly and white under the tail.
Habits: May be seen in pairs or solitary.
Diet: Seeds, grains, caterpillars and berries
Mating: Monogamous
Nest: Solitary nester. 3 – 6 white or bluish white eggs with some brown or gray marks, that hatches in 12 – 13 days.
Migration: Birds in the north migrate.
Whitin Pond: Seen on the pond in late fall and winter.
