Baltimore Oriole

Family:  Igteridae

 

Length:  7 – 8.5 inches long

 

Wingspan:  11 – 12 inches

 

Description:  The male has a black head and back area. Black wings with white edging. Slate gray straight bill. Black under bill. Yellow orange breast and under parts. Black tail with orange patches.

 

Habits:  Very common in clearings and woodlands.

 

Diet:  worms, insects, fruit and berries

 

Mating:  Monogamous

 

Nest:  Solitary nester. Eggs hatch in 12 – 14 days. Grayish or pale blue eggs.

 

Migration:  Migratory

 

Whitin Pond:  We see the oriole during the spring, summer, and fall on the pond.
