American Robin

Family:  Turdidae

 

Length: 10 inches long

 

Wingspan:  14 – 16 inches long

 

Description: The male has darkish brown grayish upper areas with a black head, yellow bill and orange rusty breast. White on lower belly. White around eye. Tail black with some small white areas.

The female has a drab brownish gray head and upper parts and tail. A yellow bill and pale orange breast.

Habits:  Widespread. Can be found in woods, yards and parks…

 

Diet:  Worms, insects, fruits and berries

 

Mating:  Monogamous

 

Nest:  Solitary nester. Eggs hatch in 14 – 16 days. Eggs are usually pale blue

 

Migration:  Migratory

 

Whitin Pond:  We see them on the pong in the spring, summer and fall.
